Signs of Miscarriage

Pregnancy and childbirth is one of the most happiest moment in the life of every women. But sometimes, this joy can come to an end because of Miscarriage.

Miscarriage is spontaneous abortion, that is the loss of pregnancy before the growth of the fetus. It may occur before 20 weeks of gestation, or sometimes even before when the women realize that she is pregnant. Knowing the signs of miscarriage, during the first three months of pregnancy, can help one to avoid the risk of miscarriage.

Signs and Symptoms of Miscarriage
The signs and symptoms of miscarriage include:

  • Vaginal bleeding or spotting preceded by brownish discharge
  • White-pink discharge
  • Passage of blood clots or tissue from the vagina
  • Persistent pain in the lower back
  • Abdominal pain
  • Cramps in pelvic area
  • Feeling of weakness
  • Vomiting
  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Decrease in pregnancy symptoms like nausea, morning sickness, breast tenderness, lack of fetal movement and loss of fetal heartbeat

Few of the signs and symptoms of miscarriage also depend upon the duration of the pregnancy. They include:

  • Signs of Early Miscarriage: Heavy vaginal bleeding like regular menstrual period.

  • Signs of a Miscarriage later in the First Trimester: Moderate pain or cramping followed by bleeding.

  • Signs of a Miscarriage after the First Trimester: Bleeding and pain like the intensity of labor.

Signs of Threatened Miscarriage
The signs of threatened miscarriage include:

  • Spotting
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Bloodstains
  • Occasional back pain or abdominal cramps.
